C reactive protein concentrations during long distance running.
Long distance runners competing in events ranging from 15 to 88 km showed a distance related acute phase response as indicated by significantly raised serum C reactive protein concentrations. In trained athletes only a small rise in C reactive protein concentrations was seen after races of less than 21 km. After an 88 km ultramarathon concentrations comparable to those found in patients with sm...
متن کاملCardiac arrest during long-distance running races.
BACKGROUND Approximately 2 million people participate in long-distance running races in the United States annually. Reports of race-related cardiac arrests have generated concern about the safety of this activity. METHODS We assessed the incidence and outcomes of cardiac arrest associated with marathon and half-marathon races in the United States from January 1, 2000, to May 31, 2010. We dete...
متن کاملC reactive protein concentrations in cystic fibrosis.
Serum concentrations of C reactive protein were measured in a cross sectional study of 36 patients with cystic fibrosis and correlated with clinical and radiological assessments. C reactive protein concentration was highly correlated with the Shwachman clinical evaluation score, forced vital capacity as a percentage of the predicted value, and the Chrispin-Norman x ray score. C reactive protein...
متن کاملEthnic differences in C-reactive protein concentrations.
BACKGROUND Limited data exist regarding the ethnic differences in C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations, an inflammatory marker associated with risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We hypothesized that known CVD risk factors, including anthropometric characteristics, would explain much of the observed ethnic variation in CRP. METHODS We performed a cross-sectional analysis of 3154 women, w...
متن کاملC-REACTIVE PROTEIN RESPONSE IN ANGINA PECTORIS
C-reactive protein (CRP) response was studied in 44 patients with acute angina pectoris admitted to the coronary care unit. 71 % of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI)had positive CRP test while 73% of patients presumed to have unstable angina pectoris had negative CRP test. This test can be helpful in differentiating between acute MI and unstable angina pectoris.
